Villages Self-Guided Tour
Did you know that City of Coral Gables Founder George Merrick planned 14 international-themed villages for Coral Gables, but only seven were built? You will be amazed at the architectural styles from around the world that exist right here in our own backyard.
Landmarks Self-Guided Tour
Coral Gables was founded and developed by George Merrick. George came to South Florida with his family prior to 1900. He was just a boy when his family purchased a homestead in the back country of Miami – today’s Coral Gables. Merrick had a dream to create an ideal suburb - a “City Beautiful” from his family’s farmland. The dream came to fruition in the 1920’s when Merrick began to sell lots and his vision of a sub-tropical, Mediterranean-inspired, lushly landscaped lovely community came to life. The sites on the Coral Gables Landmarks tour highlights some of the most significant, historic structures in the City. Enjoy!
